A letter from an Emigrant

"Thomas Higgins was born in a rural area near Boyle Co. Roscommon in 1844. He emigrated to America fourteen years later. When he as an old man, he was afraid of dying, and wrote a letter to his cousin Cecelia, outlining the difficult and lonely life of an emigrant without any family around him and without a trade or profession or other special skills.
