Ceramic Water Bottle

"It is a Ceramic Water Bottle, tan and dark cream coloured with a ceramic stopper, with evidence of cork on the underneath of the stopper. These Victorian ceramic bottles have a been around since the 1900s. In Ireland in the 1960s, few homes had central heating. As a result, when I was a child, my Father would fill the water bottle and leave it in my bed. Once I was tucked up in bed, he would remove it and then put a towel around it, then put it back into the bed by my feet. The downside of coming from “extreme cold and putting your hands or feet either up to the fire or on the hot water bottle, was the dreaded childblains (or “chillblins” as we pronounced them). I remember that if the heat from the waterbottle, blankets and eiderdown still wasn’t enough to warm me, coats would be thrown on top of me too. The water bottle gives life to wonderful memories of my Father. "
