"My Grandfather T. Lehane was part of the old IRA and lived in Cork. He was interned on Spike Island and when he was there he made the cross from a half pound and Trupenny piece. He decorated the cross with delicate Celtic designs and carved the word Spíc in Irish indicating Spike island. "
