A Birthday Wish
"This is a birthday postcard which was sent to my mother on her 17th Birthday, on 4th November, 1931. It was from her mother who lived in Dublin at the time and was sent to an address in Wicklow Town where my mother lived. My mother was from a large family and it was not unusual back then for children to be sent away to live with and perhaps work for other family members. Addressed to: Miss K. Collins, C/o, M. Mc Mahon Esq., Church St., Wicklow. It reads: "Hope all are well, expecting a letter from you. Best wish and love from all. Mother" It gives an insight into how young children were farmed away from their homes and sent to work at very young ages. Note the pricey sum of the red Eire Stamp of 1pignin (penny)!"
