Signed copy of The Ginger Man by J.P. Dunleavy

"There was a joke when Margaret Thatcher produced her autobiography, that "a rare unsigned copy" was worth more than one where the Iron Lady had inscribed her name. That jest would not be made about a copy of "The Ginger Man", signed by the author. First published in 1955, J.P. Donleavy's novel has sold some 45 million copies worldwide and has been getting renewed attention following the author's recent death at the age of 91 years. His saga on the highly-colourful social life of Sebastian Dangerfield, an American G.I. studying at Trinity College Dublin in the aftermath of World War Two, was of course banned in puritanical Ireland when it first came out. Donleavy once told The Paris Review that he "decided to write a novel that would shake the world". Few would deny that he succeeded in his aim. "
