Railway Signal Cabin
"This is a photo of the inside of Banteer old railway signal cabin in Co.Cork which has been obsolete for decades since an automated control system was introduced. There are about 20 manual levers in that cabin that controlled the movement of trains and passengers in and out of the station but now the station is unmanned most of the time. Many closed down stations and railway lines have had their signal cabins removed. The 2nd photo is the master key that must accompany each train from Banteer station to the next one so that two trains cannot be released onto a single track coming from opposite directions. The key had to return with the next incoming train"
