The Raleigh Tourist Bicycle.

"The Raleigh Tourist was a bicycle built by Raleigh Nottingham England from around 1918 to 1985. Raleigh opened an assembly plant in Hanover Quay, Dublin in around 1936 and started building Raleigh Tourist Roadsters and Bicycles for the Irish market. Sadly production ended in 1976 when the building was destroyed by a fire at the time. This is a 1957 Ladies Looped Frame Raleigh Tourist DL-1. Also known as a High Nelly in Ireland. They were once the main transport in rural Ireland. And a symbol of rural Ireland. This bicycle was originally sold in a shop in Ballina, County Mayo in 1957. The lady lived in a village just a few miles from Ballina town and she only ever used the bicycle in her local village a few times each year and never used in wet weather. This bicycle was stored for over 30 years in the old lady's cottage where it was sitting all that time in good condition and everything is original. It's an original Irish Manufactured Raleigh Tourist with it's original Irish Manufactured Dunlop tyres and tubes still fitted. It says 'Manufactured in the Republic of Ireland' on the tyres. This is a lovely old bicycle and a joy to cycle. The elderly lady sadly died 12 years ago and her son decided to sell the bicycle in 2017. Now I'm the owner of this lovely old Raleigh."
