Crannac Model C Chair

"I grew up with a 3-piece suite that I considered dated and unfashionable. My mother had a sentimental attachment to the suite as it had belonged to her mother and my Grandmother Blath Mac Aogain. Blath was a graduate of NCAD in the late 1950’s and loved design. It is only in more recent years that I appreciate the place this furniture had not just in my mother’s heart but in the history of Irish contemporary furniture production. The suite was from the Navan based company Crannac, a range called the Model C. Crannac furniture was high in quality and contemporary in design which was exported worldwide. The design has a clean lined Scandanavian influence. The frames are made from Afromosia timber from Ghana and finished with an oil which preserved the natural features of the wood. The refurbished suite has moved with us, fitting seamlessly into our new contemporary home. Good design does not date and the suite still contributes to the functionality and quality of our everyday lives. My Grandmother passed away before I was born, but her love of life, art and good design lives on and is remembered daily through our Crannac suite. "
