Earthen Ware Hot Water Bottle
"This hot-water bottle has been in my family for over 100 years and it is made of cold earthenware. It was filled with hot water at night to warm up the old iron beds and the screw on top was tightened on it to prevent leakages. It was then wrapped in some flannel cloths to prevent burning when close to the body. It is breakable so is handled with care! When I see it I think of how the hotwater bottles today have evolved to allow for rubber material covered by a soft sleeve of cuddly animals-much nicer to tuck into in bed! The older members of the Irish population should remember the ceramic water bottles and are probably delighted with the progress too!"
