OPW Commemorative Medal

"OPW COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL The Office of Public Works (OPW) was set up in 1831 and its 175th Anniversary in 2006 was commemorated by holding an internal competition for an anniversary logo design and by commissioning a medal for the event. Mr James Hanley, RHA was commissioned to design the fine silver medal, the centre of which features the façade of 51 St. Stephen’s Green, the then Headquarters of the OPW. Encircling the façade are twelve symbols that reflect the broad range of OPW activities. As the winner of the OPW logo competition, I was asked to incorporate it in circular form on the other side of the medal. Each member of staff of the OPW was presented with a medal to commemorate the occasion. "
