Transistor Radio

"In the mid-50s this Transistor Radio was bought in Waterford. When the electricity came to the house in Mooncoin it was the first thing that was bought. My father, John, would have bought it then. It was in the house for years and only replaced when the FM radio came out. It was only Long and Medium Wave on that so that's when they took it out. Dear Frankie, Gay Byrne, I remember all the old shows on it. Sunday Miscellany was Ciaran Mac Mathuna. There were sponsored shows, about 15 minutes long. The Waltons used to be on as well. That radio would have broadcast the news of JFK's shooting and everything. "
