Telephone savings box
"This money box used to sit beside the telephone in my grandparents' house, from the days when a phone was a new and exciting thing to have, and the bill was carefully watched. It worked as a (not very) subtle hint to contribute your share to the phone bill, with an old penny inset into the front to reinforce this message. It has a 'Made in Ireland' label on the plastic plug, which attributes it to Corrigcraft. When I inherited it from my late uncle in 2003, it contained a collection of small European and American coins, left over from various holidays, and some Irish ones, including two Dublin Millennium 50 pence pieces. I've kept up the tradition, adding ones from my own, more recent travels."
