World Cup USA 1994 - Jack Charlton Manager Irish Football Team Ole! Ole! Ole!
"In 1990 Ireland qualified for the Football World Cup in Italy and again in the USA in 1994. The country went into overdrive. Green, white and orange everywhere ole!, ole!, ole!. In 1994 I was a Irish puppeteer and I created a 24 inch string puppet of Jack Charlton then Team Manger. I performed in the St. Patrick's Day Parade and even at the British Travel stand in Holiday World 1994 at the RDS. The puppet had a fishing rod with a fish made out of a plastic comb and he also kicked a football on to his head. I used my father's peak cap and made his jacket out of a tweed frock belonging to my mother. He also had a miniature bottle of Guinness in one of his pockets. I also created over 200 plaques of Jack Charlton's head. These were made out of plaster, varnished in French polish to look like wood. I sold them to the Pubs and presented one to Jack Charlton's Manager, Don Givens, we had great craic. Great Memories that are still strong to this day. "
