Mayo All Ireland Programmes 1950/51
"Our Dad Peter McGing was a die-hard Mayo fan, a young Garda 'exiled' in Dublin in the 1940s and '50s! We grew up listening to great stories and blow by blow accounts of the two wonderful winning All Irelands he attended as a young man. Then he waited for the next one. Alas he died at 90 in 2013 without that luxury. Every year he said 'this will be our year'! After his death we were clearing the attic of our family home in Clane, Co. Kildare where we found decades of memories, including these two gems: the programmes of those two All Irelands. They are complete with hand written notes of score by score and the fact that he borrowed a car to return early from holidays in Mayo to attend. We had never seen them before as they were stored in a 'safe place' during one of many house moves, prior to his suffering from dementia in latter years. They are a treasure to us as they keep his memory burning brightly, and sum him up perfectly!"
