Davis Cup Tennis in RDS
"I very much doubt we will ever see Davis Cup tennis in Ireland again - not against one of the world's top players of his day! Davis Cup Tennis came to Dublin on 30th September 1983 against the USA. John McEnroe won Wimbledon that year and was the No. 1 on the USA team and he received a great welcome from the Irish crowd before he went on to beat Sean Sorenson easily in the opening singles. Ireland were spearheaded by Matt Doyle who beat Eliot Teltscher in his opening singles. The USA team was captained by Arthur Ashe, and they went on to win 4-1."
