Chrissie's hand knits

"These are a small collection of my mother's hand knitted garments. She had 13 children and knitted all of our jumpers cardigans pullover caps gloves etc. People knew who we were by the garments we wore. Even when we moved abroad and away from home she would post one for a birthday or Christmas. They were sent all over the world. Looking at them now brings back lots of happy memories. Holding out your arms to hold the woll so she could wind a new ball. Looking up patterns. I can still hear the click click of the knitting needles as she sat beside the fire on a winter's evening. When we were very young under 12 she would always knit very colourful jumpere often with little animals or flowere on them. Knitting was such a big part of her life. Times were hard but she took great pride in turning us out well. I don't have any of her earlier work but have plenty of old photos. When the grandchildren come along she was off knitting again this time because she still loved to do it. The photos are some of the ones she knitted for my children and I treasure them."
