Last Tricolour to be flown in battle
"In 1991 I was in D Squadron of the Irish Hussars in the British Army. The vehicle in the picture was called Donnybrook and as you can see flies the Tricolour proud. This is in Saudi Arabia just before the coalition forces attacked Iraq and then liberated Kuwait. I was there as a medic. D Squadron was at the front of the 7th US division and as such fought in 4 major battles. The regiment is held in high regard by most military units around the world and is best know from the famous poem by Tenyson, The Charge of the Light Brigade. During this war the Irish Hussars became known for performing the longest tank on tank kill at 5100 metres as well as also carrying out the longest cavalry charge in history of 40kms. All through this I flew this glorious flag proud and was heavily involved in the 4 battles mentioned. Today my trusty wagon, Donnybrook, is long gone but the flag is still my pride and joy. As far as I know its the last Irish Tricolour to be flown in conventional battle."
