Military Pass 1916

"This Military Pass allowed my maternal grandfather Dr John Blayney, County Surgeon in Queen's County and my mother's uncle Mr P.J. Meehan MP for Queen's County to deliver food aid for the starving poor in Dublin in the immediate aftermath of the rebellion. I hold the original Pass and cutting from the Freeman's Journal; the Leinster Express article I got on-line.The latter article gives a full outline of the story and of the fact that Mr Meehan was nearly shot on his return journey. I understand he was one of very few Irish Parliamentary Party MPs who were in Dublin during the Rising, where he saw the humanitarian need for action. Without a Pass cars could not get into Dublin. The St Vincent de Paul Society coordinated this food delivery to starving Dubliners."
