League of the Cross
"This is a medal that was given to Kate Donnelly, my grandmother, at 14 years as a promise by the grace of God to abstain from all intoxicating drinks, conceived by the Catholic Total Abstinence League. It was called League of the Cross, started by the Father Mathew, the pioneer of the total abstinence society of Ireland. Kate Donnelly was born in 1882 in Upper Glasheen in Cork, she was a very devout person and in 1896 she received this medal. She got married in 1909. This is medal is made in gold, with the St. Patrick Apostle of Ireland in the middle and references of Ireland around, like the harp, and the celtic cross. And it has a certificate that comes with."
