SPOT the BALL, fund raising card.
"A popular fund raiser for many Clubs in the early 1980's was "SPOT the BALL". This card contained 16 squares which were sold to workmates & family members at a cost of 10p per square, earning a total of £1.60 Each square was associated with an English First Division football team and buyers would place their initials in whichever square they thought contained the ball, often the club they supported. When all the squares were sold, the machine stitching around the card was undone, and inside was the same picture as the front cover, but one square contained the ball. The craze created great fun and excitement in many work places. Prize money of £1 was paid to the lucky winner, leaving a healthy profit of 60p. As this particular card is unused, maybe we have a golden opportunity to do a little fund raising for charity, but I will be looking for a lot more than 10p per square!"
