1904 GAA local club championship
"My grandfather won this medal in 1904. It was a competition organised by a team called Nils. It is silver with the coat of arms of Cork on it. It was made into a brooch which broke and by chance it survived ( probably because to was broken). He was the grandson of a German immigrant. That German had three children - two boys and a girl. The girl married a man called Healy, their son became Lord Mayor of Cork. My grandfather played football for Cork to All Ireland level, became a referee and a member of the County Board. He was killed in a fracas at a match in 1916. He left a pregnant wife and six children. My father was born three months later. The third child went to fight in World War One, was injured but survived."
