Electricity Supply Board Money Box

"This is a chrome plated circular money box. It takes pre-decimal coins. It has a top lock. The key to this lock was held by the ESB. The box was the property of the ESB which the saver retained. The box was delivered to Fleet Street EBS office where the ESB opened the box to retrieve the money owed. This method of payment stopped in 1971. The box was introduced as an incentive for the customer to manage its bills. It pre-dated the pre-payment wall meter. It was intended as a bill saver coinbox. The inscription on the top of the box is in Gaelige and below in English. There is an electric voltage symbol which defines its use associated with electricity."
