Mary's Letter

"This letter was written to my Mother shortly after she was successful in her Intermediate Certificate in 1943. It was from her older sister, Mary (b.circa 1902) who had emigrated to New South Wales with her brother, John, in 1927. I think it gives a snapshot of how so many Irish people emigrated for work. Also of historical interest, is the fact that it had been checked by the wartime censor as Australia was involved in WW2. Mary never married and died in New South Wales in the 1980's."
