"This guide to the National Monuments within the free state was created, initially, by the Commissioners of Public Works in 1913-4, but reprinted in 1936. It is 16 pages long and beautifully presented like an academic document, with very clear drawings, and contains historical descriptions of events which took place there. This one relates to Sligo Abbey which dates back to 1252 A.D. The front cover looks very faded, because it lived on a bookshelf in a house with a sunny orientation- which has caused the cover to turn an earthy brown colour. It cost 6d. to purchase. This would be equal to 2.5 cent. "
