Fetching Water
"This photo is of my mother, sister and myself on a journey to fill a 20 gallon churn with spring water from a neighbours well when our own dried up during a prolonged drought. At that time there was no piped water supply available and drinking water was hauled from local spring wells. The horse and cart were typical farmer outfits. The photo shows that women contributed significantly to the running of the farm before mechanisation eased the burdens. Our well dressed appearance would indicate that this photo was taken on a Sunday."
