Maura Laverty, Full and Plenty: Complete Guide to Good Cooking

"This is the 1st publication of Maura Laverty's Full and Plenty, published by the Irish Flour Miller's Association in 1960. The book was very ahead of its time and Maura Laverty has never gotten the recognition she deserves. At the beginning of every chapter there's a little story followed by recipes. This would have been the book out of which I was taught how to cook, and it's still a go-to. When me and my sister were small my mum got us little notebooks and every Saturday we'd do a bit of cookery and write the recipes in. I believe it was used in St. Angela's in Sligo as a textbook for people who were training to become home economics teachers, but every home had one. There were very few homes in Ireland I would imagine that didn't have a copy. My mother was a confectioner in a bakery before she married and she taught us (my sister Brid and I) how to cook. I would have made the recipes and Brid read the stories."
