PANTIBAR SIGN
"The PantiBar sign was erected over the bar early in 2015. Threatened with removal, a national debate ensued on design and the function of a city street, and the media was full of opinions on the value and rich history of illuminated signage in Dublin. Fortunately, the sign won that debate. At the same time, Panti emerged as the "accidental figurehead" of the Marriage Equality campaign, and the sign now stands iconic — not only of Panti herself but also much more broadly, acquiring its own cultural, social and political status of a moment of great change in time and place."
