"My father's first cousin Brendán MacAoire (glasses, looking at the camera), a Gaelic League activist and artist from Cloughjordan Co Tipperary. Brendán joined the priesthood late in life. He is pictured here in the mid 1960s with his fellow clergy, looking very happy to be meeting the then President of Ireland, Éamon de Valera. I think this photograph shows how revered de Valera was among members of the Catholic clergy in Ireland at the time. It is almost the same reverence they would have paid a Cardinal or a Papal nuncio. I think that speaks volumes about Irish society at the time. "
