Bomb survivor

"This is Tom he is 2 foot tall and weighs 1lb (500gms) made of delicate celluloid. All my childhood he sat in the window of Donnelly's drapery shop Sugar Island Newry, one week dressed in a romper suit the next a dress. During the so called Troubles someone thought it worthwhile to bomb the shop of those gentle folk. Many years later and 10 years ago I spotted his face at the upstairs window of a small antique shop, just yards from his former home. I had to have him. The owner told me she had bought him at a local car boot sale. Obviously salvaged. On meeting Mrs Donnelly's granddaughter I was able to confirm Tom was one and the same, (from long time damage he had) and that he had actually been called Tom. Her weekly after school task was to change Tom's outfit. She refused my offer of Tom to her family but was delighted with his photo. On making a sentimental trip to the closing of Dublin's Doll's Hospital I saw a similar doll. Now how did they both survive."
