Creamery Churns
"Two examples of early 20 gallon creamery milk churns that have been restored using fibreglass. The one on the right was the earliest variety and used from c.1886-1940. This one evolved from the butter dash churn (photo 2) used to make farm butter before the creameries were established. These had a chain and bracket to prevent the lid from getting lost on rough, untarred roads. The one on the left was introduced in the 1930's and continued until the 10 gallon variety was introduced in the 1960's. The dash butter churn was the basic model in use on small farms.to convert cream to butter."
