School Book Robinson Crusoe

"This book belonged to my gran-uncle Timothy Murphy. His name, address and class(fifth class) are written in the back. He was born in 1909 as he was two in the 1911 census and he died at 17 from tuberculosis around 1926. We always heard of how lonesome his mother was after his death and this was proved to be true about three years ago when we started renovating the old family house. During the removal of the all the old interior wood which was destroyed by woodworm we found this school book inside one of the partitions upstairs. The house was originally a cottage but around 1930 it was raised to a two story and timothy's mother must have put the book in the partition then. I imagine she did this as she could not bear to see it around the house so she hid it where it would be safe but never be seen. I think this little school book says a lot about the devastation tuberculous had on families all across this country as it killed thousands before eventually steps were taken nationally to tackle it and it was more or less eradicated"
