Potassium Iodate tablets

"In the summer of 2002, on behalf of the Department of Health & Children, packs of iodine tablets were distributed by An Post to households in Ireland at a cost of €630,000. They were intended to provide protection against radioactive iodine in the event of a nuclear accident. Their distribution was prompted by fear of a terrorist attack on a nuclear reactor in Europe following the September 2001 attack on the Twin Towers in New York. Their expiry date was March 2005."
