JFK Medal
"My grandmother kept this medal in the drawer of her writing desk, tucked away beside the box for her wristwatch and an old EBS savings book in which creeping inches of deposits were carefully recorded in blue ink. This medal wasn’t issued to celebrate JFK’s momentous visit to Ireland in 1963, but in commemoration of his death five months later. My gran wasn’t a hoarder. A careful keeper of stuff that was sure ‘to come in handy,’ yes, but not a mindless hoarder of any piece of tat that came through the door. For that reason, I assume it meant something for her. To her. "
