Framed acknowledgement from the Vatican on behalf of Pope Pius XII to the Grafton Family
"This is a family blessing from the Holy Father, Pope Pius XII in 1954. It is dedicated to William Grafton and Family from Balbriggan. My sister Alice was born in 1951 she contracted Polio when she was two, in 1953. My father received the blessing for the family the following year to recognize the illness and show sympathy with the family. It is a Papal blessing. There is an embossed stamp on the lower left section from the Vatican. There is a detailed floral and vine hand painted border around the text. The floral motif is symmetrical and resembles Medieval Celtic manuscript decoration. The central text also has also been influenced by old Irish Gospel text written around the eighth century. The text is similar due to colour highlighting around isolated letters. A circular, printed image of the Pope is centered on the paper. I was William Grafton’s eldest daughter. I now keep the picture who keeps it in her attic. "
