"With a date verified by the good people of the Dunsink Observatory AND The Royal Observatory,Greenwich,these (first two) photographs were taken by our son, Chris and me on board Aer Lingus flight EI 330 from Cork to Dublin on the 1st of January 2001 at approximately 8.30 a.m. and over County Tipperary. The date for this event was erroneously celebrated in many places around the world a year earlier but apart from my own confidence of the correct date for the occasion, I have gone to the trouble of having it verified in writing (third photo'). I have also had it verified by the United States Naval Observatory whose advice was ignored by the authorities in that country owing to popular demand for a celebration."
