Sewing Patterns
"A sample of my mother’s patterns from the sixties and seventies. One, a My Weekly offer from Lillie London Patterns dated January 29, 1977. My mother made all our (seven girls) clothes when we were kids. Sometimes the pattern was in her head. She pinned, tacked and cut out dresses and coats as so many other women did at the time All sewn up on her Singer sewing machine which stood in the dining room as a piece of furniture. We often asked about the different parts of the machine. She showed us how to thread the machine, I’m sure I could still do it now, check the bobbin and we were always curious about the hidden compartment under the machine. Some of the patterns were used in our secondary school domestic science classes."
