Eircom callcard World Cup 2002 Collection

"26 cards were produced picturing the entire Irish World Cup team for this set. As you can see all the cards are mint and are still all in their plastic packaging. The folder which was a special collectors folder was sold through the collectors club of which I was a member for €5 by mail order. What makes this collection special is that both Colin Healy and Richard Sadlier didn't make the final cut for the 24 man squad. Their places were taken by Mark Kinsella of Charlton Athletic and David Connolly of Wimbledon. What's most striking about the pictures is the scowl on Roy Keanes face perhaps he knew something we didn't at the time. History has told us that the summer of 2002 was embroiled in controversy when Roy Keane walked from the squad as they were preparing in Saipan. These events would dominate the summer and you had 2 sides those in favour of Keane and those in favour of McCarthy. Many a pub debate ensued on the issue and they were quiet heated as I remember vividly. Imagine if Roy Keane had stayed - could we have - we couldn't could we?"
