“Pay for your call it keeps the bill small” change collection box
"This was in my grandparents’ house as far as I can remember. When my uncle, who was still living in the house, died in 2003, we were clearing out his house and this was one of the things that I kept. There were already coins in it. And I’ve been adding to it. It was originally to be thrifty about the phonecalls, so if you made a call on the house phone, you put the penny or tuppence in to ‘contribute’ to the bills. Telephone calls would’ve been seen to be really expensive. When my uncle would come home from holidays, he would put change from the foreign currency in the money box when he emptied out his pockets. I’ve been doing the same thing, so some of these are mine. There’s Norwegian coins from my trip to Norway this year. "
