Longford 1918

"In 1918, Ireland was a police state, worse that that described in the book '1984'. If one wished to drive from Longford to Dublin, One had to apply to the Royal Irish Constabulary, you had to justify your trip. You had to explain why you were going, and in addition, why you were not taking the train like everybody else. This letter was written for Doctor Vincent S. Delany who wanted to bring his Sister-in-Law to an interview. He needed a letter, so that if he was stopped at a roadblock, he could prove that his trip was approved. Once we have a new post-BREXIT border- will the same type of rules apply? "
