Letter from Limerick Prison
"This is a letter that was written by my Grandfather on the 1st January 1921. He wrote it from prison in Limerick after he was arrested in an IRA raid on the 27th December 1920. It was the biggest raid of the Black & Tans at Caherguillamore, during the War of Independence. They were holding a dance to raise money for the IRA in this old house which was deserted. My grandfather was collecting the money on the way in. His brother was a doctor and he brought his medical kit with him. My grandfather was transferred shortly to a prison in London. They were released at the end of 1921 when the treaty was signed. "
