Coin - 20p With No Pope Ulster

"These coins where defaced and distributed in the late 1980's supposedly by a group of unionisits in the North. It was the time of Ian Paisley's many outbursts against the Pope. I'm not sure how this came into our house but my Mam probably got it in her change in the local shop and decided to "take it out of circulation". Its been sitting in a biscuit tin for as long as I can remember. I suppose at the time it was a particularly agressive act to stamp these words over the harp, a strong symbol of Ireland, now it's an object of a certain place and time, hopefully long gone. "
