"The image within this oil painting was sketched by a member of the G.P.O garrison during the uprising and was completed into what we see here after prisoners had been released in 1917. I believe it was created on the orders of the press agent Joe Stanley for Patrick Pearse as part of his responsibility to get word of the rising, out to the world. "
