A Wheel from A WWII Bomber
"This is a wheel from a WWII bomber. It came into my possession through a round-a-bout way. I'm a mechanic in Ballycanew, Co. Wexford. In WWII, a bomber plane crash-landed in a field nearby. The wreck served as source of rare materials for many people (with rations and all) and a local man made a wheel-barrow out of the plane's wheel. The wheel-barrow and indeed the wheel were in working order for a few decades later, until one day he got a puncture and came into my shop for a repair. I repaired the wheel, noticed the markings and asked the man if I could keep the wheel, being a history buff. Fortunately, he let me keep it but with one rule. I wasn't allowed to show the wheel to anyone until after his death. He had always embarrassed about stealing the wheel."
