Bread bin
"The large families of Irish cities in the 1940s survived on a diet of bread, butter, jam, rashers and eggs. There was a need to store the bread in the kitchen larder, so an enamelled metal bread-bin (with a handle on each side) was used. This bread bin has been through a number of different roles: Breadbin. Garden peat. Gravel for garden drainage. Despite the age of the bin, it still remains servicable, despite having lost its lid years ago. "
