Abbeyswell Pattern Day

"Abbeyswell ,Lombardstown Co.Cork. this scene was captured in 2016 on 11th Feb.which is the feast day of Saint Abbey who founded a monastic settlement here in c.600 AD. The last church on the site disappeared in the 1700's but the small cemetery is still in use.The well is renowned for curing sore eyes and attracted huge crowds on the pattern day and celebrations into the mid 1900's.The surrounding roads were thronged with hawkers,sales tents and sporting events took place for three full days.
