Sinn Fein Demonstration
"First SF demonstration in Dundalk 1910. High sheriff and police went to proclaim the accession of George V to the throne of England. When they raised the Union Jack the SF party raised the tricolour on the 1798 maid of Eirn statue. There was a vocal contest between God save the King and God save Ireland! The SF party avoided arrest because there was a small plinth around the statue that was private property owned by one of the SF members! This is an original photo and the account on the back is hand written by Louth Volunteer 1916 Hugh Kearney! What might make this piece more interesting is if my son who chaired the Louth Relatives committee in 2016 is now an Army Cadet in the Curragh! He has kept Hugh Kearneys name in the forefront of Louths history for 1916! Interesting too is that Hugh Kearneys daughter is still alive but is not far off her death bed! "
