AMI Mirrorball Helmet

"Alternative Miss Ireland (AMI) was a ground breaking pageant, started in 1987 and running for 18 events until 2012. Open to all, it set out to discombobulate definitions of Irish beauty, and along the way raised hundreds of thousands of Euro for Irish HIV/AIDS organisations. It championed the transformative power of dressing up and having fun, and became widely known as "Gay Christmas", and changed the lives of many. AMI built her own stage (as no one else was going to do it) for the marginalised to dance upon and celebrate, and to offer themselves up for slaughter to the gods of future good times. Along the way crowning 18 Queen CailĂns, many of whom are now national treasures in their own right!"
