A Horseshoe

"This horseshoe reminds me of Ireland before the introduction of cars and busy roads. The local forge near where I live was a very busy place and Johnny Calnan the local blacksmith was a highly respected member of society-the good wishes of the local blacksmith on you became synonymous with good luck and that is why the horseshoe is still hung in Irish homes for good luck. The size of this horseshoe tell us it was for a big work horse and the nails were hammered into the horse's hoof to spare his hooves on harder surfaces such as the tarmacadem roads which were being developed in parts of Ireland at that time. The Luck of the Irish is in the Horseshoe!"
