Glasnevin Memorabilia
"A receipt for a vault in Glasnevin cemetery in 1842. My great great grandfather bought the grave and paid 31 pounds and 6 shillings. It was a vault built into the circle. It equated to 100,000 euro now so he was quite wealthy. He bought it for his beloved wife, who was 20 years his junior. She died in 1843 and he lived for another 20 years a widower. The vault is still there. He died in 1864. 2. He was skinner; his business was to skin the animals and cure the hide before exporting them to England. He was very, very wealthy. Every year he went to the Newmarket Race in England. In his older years, after his wife died, he built a tower in Watling Street so he could go study in his tower and not be interrupted. He had quite a few children but many of them died when they were quite young. He wore a different colour wig every second day. He wrote nasty songs about his competitors and he paid a tramp to stand outside their premises to sing these songs. "
