Enlistment Certificate
"This is an enlistment certificate for my grandfather, Thomas Henry Williams. He lived in Palmerstown, Dublin. On the 18th of November, 1915, he enlisted as a trouper with the South Irish Horses. He would have been 23 when he enlisted. He stayed between a year and two years. After that he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps by 1917. My grandfather was a qualified electrician, as was his father, so he was maintaining the aircrafts and keeping them flying. The RFC later became the RFA. I think he would have been in France most of them time. I tried to find his records but the Record Office in England could not find them. He worked mainly behind the line. He left the RFA at the rank of Corporal. He returned back to his job in the Guinness Factory, St James. His father also worked at Guinness. When he retired in 1950s he went on to work in Farmleigh house where Lord Ivegh lived. My grandmother gave me the cert and his medals not long after he passed. They are now family heirlooms. "
